Tiles of Artists in Quilmes, Buenos Aires

In 2004, the plastic artist, Cristina del Castillo, started her project en Paso de los Libres (Province of Corrientes). That pretends to revalue and to get closer the ceramics and the culture to the public in general, just as it helps the merger of nations, men and towns.
Saltimbanki, the percussion group of Quilmes, had played in the inaugural ceremony of “Tiles of Artists 2010”, in Paso de los Libres and Concepción del Uruguay. Now, they bring this project to their land: Quilmes.

The urban intervention is organized by the Secretary of Culture and Education of Quilmes Municipality, who supports and promotes the art movement of “Tiles of Artists”. The godmothers of this project will be:

Cristina del Castillo, her author from Paso de los Libres, who generously allows us to go ahead with this plan in Quilmes;

María Ma Dougall, artist and teacher from La Plata, who’s promoted the project of tiles among her pupils. Thanks to María, the tile of Saltimbanki arrived to Libres in 2007.

Saltimbanki invites you to participate, whichever is your nationality. If you are interested, you must send a ceramic hand made tile. The work must be made of mud of your city, this way, it will find expression in the urban space where it will be recontextualized, at the moment of been located in the mural, whit the other artists of the world tiles. The mural will be inaugurated at the end of November 2010, year of Patria´s Bicentary, within the context of the 8th Anniversary of Saltimbanki festivities.

In this edition from Quilmes, the mural will be located in passage placed in Los Petroleros neighbourhood (Quilmes Oeste), residential area where some of Saltimbanki members live and the group rehearses. The passage will be an open door museum, with the expression of all of the world artists who want to exhibit their work to the men that pass. This way, we recover the art as a daily element.

As the beginning of times, when men used the mud to do their pots and the drums to communicate at distance, we now want that ceramic and percussion continue being our daily expression elements.

Be welcome artists and tiles to the 1st edition of Tiles of Artist in Quilmes!

As Good used the mud to make the first man as his first pot, we belive that every man has an internal drum, his own heart.

Through this note, we invite every artist of entire world to participate in this project which will take shape among all of us. Because, every tile since its origin has a message, and the joint of all of the messages generates a new way of tell every story: and in this new story, all of us are the main character, sending a message from unio to posterity.
